The campus we route West Palm Beach to is in Lake Worth, about 10 miles southwest in a straight line and farther by road. It is The Recovery Village Palm Beach at Baptist Health, on Lantana Road. Its own page publishes detox, residential and inpatient care, a partial hospitalization program, an intensive outpatient program and aftercare planning, so the usual steps happen in one place.

Palm Beach County has more treatment marketing than most places in the country. One filter cuts through a lot of it: Florida law makes it unlawful to act as a substance abuse service provider without a license, or an exemption from one [1].

This page sets out where people from West Palm Beach go, how far it is, which levels of care the state licenses, what the first days of withdrawal involve, how coverage tends to work and what the first call sounds like. Our Florida rehab hub covers the rest of the state.

Where West Palm Beach Residents Actually Go for Drug and Alcohol Rehab

South, and not very far. West Palm Beach sits at the northern end of a dense stretch of Palm Beach County, and the treatment capacity runs down the coast towards Lake Worth Beach, Lantana and Boynton.

Our campus for this market is The Recovery Village Palm Beach at Baptist Health, at 4905 Lantana Road in Lake Worth. It is run in partnership with Baptist Health. Its own what-to-expect page says it welcomes people from all backgrounds and customizes treatment plans to meet a variety of mental and physical needs, including those of military veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, the elderly and more [6].

The statute is the thing to lean on when comparing anywhere else. Florida spells out the licensable service components a provider may offer, and it lists them by name [2]. Operating without that license is unlawful [1]. Any program that cannot say what it is licensed for has told you something.

We publish only our own facilities, so this is not a ranked list of everyone in the county. Our nationwide directory of rehab facilities covers our family. The federal locator covers everybody else.

West Palm Beach Is About 10 Miles From the Lake Worth Campus

About 10 miles in a straight line and farther by road, running south on Interstate 95 or Dixie Highway. The campus sits west of I-95 on Lantana Road.

We want to be plain about the geography rather than let a page blur it. The campus is not in West Palm Beach. It is in Lake Worth, further south in the same county.

For most families that distance is an advantage. Visiting does not eat a day. The person stays inside their own county, on their own insurance, near the people they will lean on afterwards. And when care steps down from residential to intensive outpatient, the address does not change. You can read more on our page for the Recovery Village Palm Beach.

Levels of Care Open to West Palm Beach Residents: Detox Through Aftercare Planning

Florida defines these in statute, which is unusually helpful when you are comparing programs.

The statutory line that matters most to a Palm Beach County reader is the one between living at a program and going home at night. Florida’s residential treatment component is a live-in service in a non-hospital setting running 24 hours a day, seven days a week; its day or night treatment component keeps a structured schedule of treatment and rehabilitative services but is explicitly non-residential [2]. Detoxification sits outside that pair: the statute defines it as subacute care given on either an inpatient or an outpatient basis, so “detox” alone does not tell you whether a bed is involved [2]. Intensive outpatient treatment is defined by contrast with ordinary outpatient care, being higher in intensity and longer in duration rather than different in kind [2]. One further category is worth recognizing if a crisis is already underway: the state separately licenses addictions receiving facilities, secure acute care sites staffed around the clock that provide at least detoxification and stabilization [2].

Our Lake Worth campus covers those tiers: detox, residential and inpatient care, a partial hospitalization program and an intensive outpatient program, with aftercare planning published alongside them. That matters because the handover between levels is where people fall out of care.

Which tier fits is a clinical judgment. Our explainers on medical detox and inpatient rehab describe what each looks like in practice.

Detox First: What Happens in the First 72 Hours

Alcohol withdrawal has a rough clock, and federal guidance is the place to take it from. Signs and symptoms of acute alcohol withdrawal generally start 6 to 24 hours after the last drink [3]. Withdrawal may begin while the person still has alcohol in the blood [3].

The course after that is described as extremely variable [3]. Some people move partway through the symptoms and then improve slowly [3]. Others have mild to moderate symptoms that resolve almost abruptly [3]. Another group presents with a seizure or with hallucinations [3].

Mild withdrawal generally means anxiety, irritability, difficulty sleeping and decreased appetite [3]. Severe withdrawal usually brings obvious trembling of the hands and arms, sweating, a raised pulse and blood pressure, nausea and hypersensitivity to noises [3]. Seizures and true delirium tremens are described as the most extreme forms of severe alcohol withdrawal [3].

If someone is having a seizure, is unresponsive or has trouble breathing, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.

Medical surveillance, including monitoring of vital signs, is expected throughout [3]. Age, general health, nutritional factors and any co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions all appear to play a part in increasing severity [3].

No amounts or schedules appear on this page. That is prescribing, and it belongs to the clinician in the room.

Cost and Coverage in Florida: Florida Blue, Florida Medicaid and Self-Pay

Parity law is the floor under all of this. A plan that covers mental health or substance use benefits cannot apply harsher financial requirements or treatment limits to them than it applies to medical and surgical benefits [4]. Copays, coinsurance and visit caps are all in scope [4]. Since 2021, plans that use non-numeric limits have had to carry out and document a written comparison of how they apply them [4]. Parity has a scope worth knowing. It applies to non-federal governmental plans with more than 50 employees, to private employer group plans with more than 50 employees, and to individual-market coverage. Small group plans are not covered directly; they get the same protection indirectly through the Affordable Care Act’s essential health benefit requirement [4].

Two things that surprise people. Parity does not require a plan to cover this care in the first place [4]. Separately, the Affordable Care Act makes mental health and substance use services one of ten essential health benefit categories in most individual and small group plans [4].

Florida Blue is a commercial carrier. Its network, prior approval requirements and medical necessity criteria are its own, operating inside those parity rules [4]. What your particular policy pays is not something any page can tell you. A benefits check can, and it is usually quick.

Florida Medicaid is organized in statute as a statewide, integrated managed care program covering all covered services [5], which is why the managed care plan printed on your card, rather than a state office, is where a Medicaid question starts. For self-pay, ask for the total by level of care rather than a nightly figure, since length of stay drives the number. Our pages on insurance coverage for rehab and what rehab costs list the questions worth asking.

Commuting to Outpatient Care Versus Staying on Campus

Ten miles makes this a genuine choice rather than a formality, so it is worth thinking through.

The statute draws the line clearly. Residential treatment means living at the program in a structured non-hospital setting staffed around the clock [2]. Day or night treatment keeps the clinical hours and sends the person home overnight [2]. Intensive outpatient treatment is lighter still, though more structured than standard outpatient care [2].

Commuting works when home is steady and someone else is in the house. It works badly when the trigger for using is inside that house. Ten miles on I-95 between West Palm Beach and Lantana Road is a short distance that is not always a short journey, and a difficult morning plus a slow drive is how appointments get missed.

Staying on campus removes both problems for the early weeks, then the step down to intensive outpatient care happens at the same address. Our outpatient rehab explainer covers how those weekly schedules are built.

What the First Phone Call Covers

It is a screening, and it is confidential. Expect questions about what is being used and for how long, previous treatment, current medications and any other diagnosis.

Then benefits. Most admissions teams will verify coverage for you, which is faster than calling the insurer yourself. Then a clinical recommendation: the level of care that fits, and when a place is open.

Then the practical part, which is usually what people are actually worried about. Transport from West Palm Beach. What to pack. Work, children, pets, court dates. Raise all of it on the first call. Our guide to getting into rehab lays out the usual order.

West Palm Beach Support and Florida Public Resources After Discharge

The aftercare plan is written before discharge, not after. It should name the next appointment, how often sessions run, what medicine continues, and what to do on a bad day.

Some people go home to West Palm Beach and continue in intensive outpatient care. Others move first into a certified recovery residence. Florida certifies those under the same chapter and defines the levels: a Level IV residence is provided by a licensed provider to patients who must live there while receiving intensive outpatient or higher care, and it is staffed around the clock [2].

Two federal search tools sit outside all of this and cost nothing to try: findtreatment.gov, the treatment locator, and SAMHSA’s find-help pages. Our family of treatment centers page shows what we run ourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a drug rehab in West Palm Beach?

Not one of ours. Our campus for this market is The Recovery Village Palm Beach at Baptist Health, about 10 miles southwest in Lake Worth. Florida law makes it unlawful to operate as a substance abuse service provider without a license, so ask any program which service components it holds a license for. For everything else nearby, use the federal treatment locator.

How far is the nearest Recovery Village Palm Beach campus from West Palm Beach?

About 10 miles in a straight line and farther by road, south on Interstate 95 or Dixie Highway. The campus is at 4905 Lantana Road in Lake Worth, still inside Palm Beach County. That keeps visits short and keeps the person on the same insurance network, which matters when care steps down from residential to intensive outpatient.

Does Florida Blue cover rehab for West Palm Beach residents?

It depends on the individual policy, and a benefits check is the only way to be sure. Federal parity law bars a plan that covers substance use benefits from imposing harsher costs or limits on them than on medical and surgical care. Parity does not require a plan to cover the care at all, though most individual and small group plans now must.

Can I detox in West Palm Beach or do I have to travel?

Expect a short drive to Lake Worth. Florida defines detoxification as subacute care that may be given on an inpatient or outpatient basis, so the setting follows the clinical picture. Federal guidance generally prefers a hospital, or another form of round-the-clock medical care, for alcohol, sedative-hypnotic and opioid withdrawal. That decision is made at assessment, not in advance.

How soon can a West Palm Beach resident be admitted?

Often within a day or two, sometimes the same day. It depends on the level of care, on availability and on whether the plan requires authorization first. The screening call and the benefits check set the pace. If withdrawal has already begun, say so at the start of the call so it can be triaged properly.
