The Ranch Pennsylvania provides a peaceful and supportive environment for adults seeking treatment for substance use and mental health conditions. Located on approximately 155 acres in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, the campus overlooks the Susquehanna River and offers a comfortable setting away from everyday triggers. Patients benefit from cottage-style residences, fitness opportunities, outdoor recreation, creative activities and experiential programming that support overall well-being. Comprehensive care options include medical detox, inpatient substance abuse treatment, inpatient mental health treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programming.
Excellence You Can Trust
The Ranch Pennsylvania is accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs and the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. These distinctions reflect the facility’s commitment to established standards for patient safety, treatment quality and behavioral healthcare. Our multidisciplinary team includes medical providers, psychiatric professionals, nurses, therapists and behavioral health staff experienced in treating substance use and mental health conditions. Together, they provide evidence-based, trauma-informed and experiential care tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
We believe effective treatment should address the whole person rather than focusing only on the symptoms of addiction or mental health conditions. Through individualized care, patients can explore underlying concerns such as trauma, grief and difficult past experiences while learning healthier ways to manage emotions, stress and relationships.Treatment combines medical and psychiatric support with individual counseling, group therapy, family involvement and practical skill development. Gender-specific residences and much of the programming offer focused peer support, while outdoor, creative and experiential activities help patients apply recovery skills in meaningful ways.
Levels of Care
At The Ranch Pennsylvania, our clinical team conducts a comprehensive assessment to understand each patient’s history, symptoms and treatment needs. This information guides the development of an individualized treatment plan and determines the most appropriate starting level of care. As patients progress, they may transition into programs that offer greater independence while maintaining continued clinical support.
Medical Detox
For many patients beginning recovery from drugs or alcohol, treatment starts with medical detoxification. During this process, substances are safely eliminated from the body under continuous supervision from medical professionals. The length and symptoms of detox vary based on the substances used, the duration of use and other health factors. Our medical team works to make the process as safe and comfortable as possible, using medications when clinically appropriate. After detox, patients may transition into continued treatment to address the underlying causes and effects of substance use.
Inpatient Treatment for Substance Abuse
Inpatient substance abuse treatment provides a structured environment where patients live at the facility and receive around-the-clock support. Patients participate in counseling, group therapy, medical services and therapeutic activities designed to address the physical, emotional and behavioral effects of addiction.By stepping away from everyday triggers and responsibilities, patients can focus fully on developing coping strategies, strengthening emotional well-being and building a foundation for continued recovery. Residences and much of the programming are separated by gender to support focused treatment and peer connection.
Inpatient Mental Health Treatment
Inpatient mental health treatment provides intensive support for adults experiencing primary mental health conditions. Patients live at the facility while receiving structured psychiatric care, therapy and clinical support in an environment designed to promote safety, stability and healing.Individualized treatment helps patients understand their symptoms, process difficult experiences and develop practical skills for emotional regulation and daily life. Separate treatment tracks are available for men and women.
Partial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides structured treatment with greater independence than inpatient care. Patients participate in therapy, clinical programming and skills development during the day while beginning to practice greater autonomy outside scheduled treatment hours.PHP is available for substance use, primary mental health and co-occurring conditions through The Ranch Pennsylvania’s outpatient location in Lancaster. Patients may live in nearby boarding accommodations or off campus while participating in care.
Intensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programming (IOP) offers continued therapy and support with fewer treatment hours than PHP. This increased flexibility allows patients to apply coping strategies and healthy routines in everyday life while remaining connected to clinical care.IOP is available for substance use and mental health treatment through the Lancaster outpatient location and may be attended in person or virtually. Individual counseling, group therapy and skill development help patients maintain progress as they return to work, family responsibilities and community life.
Aftercare Planning
Recovery and improved mental health continue beyond formal treatment. Before discharge, the clinical team helps each patient develop an individualized aftercare plan designed to support continued progress and reduce the risk of relapse or symptom recurrence.Aftercare recommendations may include continued therapy, psychiatric services, peer support groups, recovery meetings and connections to community providers. Patients may also transition into another appropriate level of care based on their ongoing clinical needs.
Types of Therapy Provided
Our evidence-based treatment approach combines clinical expertise with trauma-informed, experiential and adventure-based care. Patients may participate in one-on-one counseling, group therapy and family sessions as clinically appropriate. Each treatment plan is tailored to the patient’s needs and may include therapeutic approaches such as:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT helps patients identify unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that may contribute to substance use or emotional distress. Patients learn to recognize triggers, reconsider unhealthy beliefs and practice healthier responses to difficult situations.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT teaches patients how to manage intense emotions, tolerate distress and respond to challenges more effectively. By balancing acceptance with positive behavior change, patients can strengthen emotional regulation and improve their relationships.
Motivational Interviewing: Motivational interviewing helps patients explore their personal reasons for making positive changes. Through supportive conversations, patients can work through uncertainty, strengthen motivation and build confidence in their ability to move forward.
Experiential and Adventure-Based Therapy: Experiential and adventure-based therapies allow patients to practice communication, trust, problem-solving and emotional awareness through guided activities. Outdoor exercises, creative therapies and other hands-on experiences can help patients apply treatment concepts in new and meaningful ways.
