Our closest campus to Kissimmee is Orlando Recovery Center, about 12 miles north on Lake Ellenor Drive. Its own page publishes medical detox, inpatient rehab for substance abuse, inpatient rehab for mental health, a partial hospitalization program, or PHP, and aftercare planning.
Intensive outpatient care, known as IOP, and standard outpatient care are delivered from our Orlando Outpatient Center in Maitland, which matters for planning, so we say it here rather than three screens down.
What follows is built for an Osceola County household working out what to do next. How to tell that use has passed the point of managing it alone. What the Orlando campus publishes. What detox involves. How Florida coverage works. How to raise it with a relative. And what the first two days feel like. Our Florida drug rehab hub covers the statewide picture.
Watch the attempts to stop, not the quantity consumed.
Alcohol use disorder is characterized by an impaired ability to stop or control drinking despite consequences at home, at work or to health, and clinicians grade it by counting symptoms rather than drinks [1]. Substance use disorders follow the same logic.
Local context sharpens a few of these. Kissimmee’s economy leans on hospitality, theme parks and seasonal work, which means irregular shifts, late finishes and an after-work drinking culture that hides a lot. Signals worth taking seriously include:
None of that diagnoses anybody. Together it is enough reason to get an assessment instead of waiting for something undeniable.
The card list, on Lake Ellenor Drive in south Orlando.
The campus publishes medical detox, inpatient rehab for substance abuse, inpatient rehab for mental health, a partial hospitalization program and aftercare planning. It treats mental health conditions alongside substance use, which matters because the two so often arrive together.
Being honest about the shape of it: this is the acute end of the ladder. Someone who completes residential care steps down from there, and someone who needs weekly therapy alone is usually better served at an outpatient site. We run an outpatient site of our own in the region, Orlando Outpatient Center in Maitland, which provides outpatient care, IOP and telehealth.
Our page for Orlando Recovery Center covers the campus itself.
Because it is close enough to keep a family involved and far enough to break a routine.
The run north from Kissimmee is short by Florida standards, whether by the Florida Turnpike, John Young Parkway or I-4. A parent can visit on a weeknight. A partner can attend a family session without booking a hotel.
The practical notes are the same ones that catch every family out. Nobody in withdrawal should drive themselves. Someone else should handle the admission paperwork, because the person being admitted usually retains very little of it. And afternoon I-4 traffic is real, so an early arrival slot beats a late one.
If someone is having a seizure, is unresponsive or has trouble breathing, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.

Continuous observation and treatment that tracks what is measured, rather than a fixed schedule.
The need depends on the substance. Alcohol and sedative withdrawal can be dangerous on its own. The mild version is anxiety, irritability, broken sleep and a poor appetite [2]. Severe cases add trembling hands and arms, heavy sweating, a climbing pulse and blood pressure, and nausea [2]. Brief hallucinations are possible as well [2]. Seizures and true delirium tremens are the extreme end, and either can prove fatal [2]. Unlike alcohol and sedative withdrawal, uncomplicated opioid withdrawal is not life-threatening [2]. The real dangers are complications, and the increased overdose risk afterward: withdrawal reduces tolerance, so someone who has just been through it can overdose on a much smaller amount [7]. If someone is having a seizure, is unresponsive or has trouble breathing, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.
Withdrawal is scored, not guessed at. The CIWA-Ar covers nausea, tremor, anxiety, agitation, perceptual disturbance, headache and disorientation [2]. Repeat withdrawals that each looked worse than the last are known as kindling, and they warrant particular attention [2]. Earlier severe withdrawals, delirium tremens or seizures also make a social detoxification setting the wrong choice [2].

Our explainers on medical detox and inpatient rehab describe the settings in more detail.
Three routes, and each needs a different first phone call.
Commercial coverage through Florida Blue or another carrier depends on the policy and often on the employer behind it. Marketplace policies must include substance use services among the essential health benefits and cannot apply annual or lifetime dollar limits to mental health or substance use care [3]. Prior approval is standard for detox and residential admission, and parity law prevents a plan applying those controls more strictly to addiction benefits than to medical ones [4]. Nothing here asserts network status with any carrier, so confirm it against your member ID. Parity has a scope worth knowing. It applies to non-federal governmental plans with more than 50 employees, to private employer group plans with more than 50 employees, and to individual-market coverage. Small-employer group plans are generally outside it, although non-grandfathered small-group and individual plans must cover mental health and substance use disorder services as an essential health benefit under the Affordable Care Act [4].
Medicaid covers behavioral health services, including treatment for substance use disorders [5]. For a Florida member, what is covered and through which plan is a question for the plan named on the card and for the state’s own published guidance, not for us.
Self-pay is the third route and is worth pricing before it is dismissed. Our own cost page puts basic residential treatment at $2,000 to $20,000 and detox at $250 to $800 a day; treat those as the band a real quote lands inside, because the level of care and the length of stay move the number more than anything else. Our pages on insurance coverage for rehab and what rehab costs set out what actually drives the number.
Prepare one conversation properly instead of stumbling through five.
Choose a moment when the person is neither using nor hungover. Bring observations rather than labels: the shift that was covered, the car keys handed over, the missing money. Name the ask, which is an assessment rather than a promise to enter treatment. And settle in advance what you will do if the answer is no, because a boundary you will not hold costs you credibility for the next attempt.
Defensiveness is close to guaranteed and tells you very little. Refusals on Tuesday become phone calls on Friday more often than families expect.
If you are the person being approached, the thing worth knowing is that an assessment obliges you to nothing. It produces a clinical opinion about which level of care fits, and you are free to take it away and think.
Intake, medical assessment, monitoring, and not much that resembles therapy yet.
Day one is mostly forms and checks. A medical assessment. A mental health screening. What may be brought in is a campus rule, so ask the admissions team instead of packing on assumption.
Sleep and appetite are usually poor at the start. Staff expect both.
Ask beforehand how contact with family works in the opening days and who the campus will update, since programs differ. By the second day most people have met their assigned clinician and have a provisional plan, including how long the first authorized block of care is expected to run.
This is where a Kissimmee plan differs from a plan built around a single full-continuum campus.
The step-down from the Orlando campus is arranged deliberately rather than automatically. Our Orlando Outpatient Center in Maitland provides IOP, standard outpatient care and telehealth, and telehealth in particular suits shift workers whose hours make a fixed evening group impossible. Medication for alcohol or opioid use disorder continues across the step-down where a clinician has prescribed it.
Three things decide whether the gains hold. An appointment in the calendar before discharge rather than after. A named person to call on a bad night. And a concrete plan for the specific situations that used to involve using.
Florida publishes its own public health statistics through FLHealthCHARTS, which is the place to look for county-level health data rather than any figure a treatment site might quote [6]. Our directory of treatment facilities lists our campuses elsewhere.
Not one that we operate. Our nearest campus is Orlando Recovery Center, about 12 miles north in south Orlando, whose own page publishes medical detox, inpatient rehab for substance abuse, inpatient rehab for mental health, a partial hospitalization program and aftercare planning. Outpatient and IOP are delivered from our Orlando Outpatient Center in Maitland, which also offers telehealth for people whose shifts make fixed groups difficult.
About 12 miles north, whether by the Florida Turnpike, John Young Parkway or I-4. That is close enough for weeknight family visits and short enough that travel is rarely the obstacle. Nobody in withdrawal should make the drive alone, so arrange a second adult for the journey in.
Policies with behavioral health benefits usually fund addiction treatment in some form. The detail follows the product, the employer and the level of care. Marketplace policies have to carry substance use services, and cannot cap them in dollars annually or over a lifetime. We assert no network status with any carrier. Verify benefits against your own member ID before admission.
Travel, if the assessment indicates supervised detox. Our nearest detox is at the Orlando campus. Whether it is needed depends on withdrawal risk rather than preference: severity is graded with a validated scale, and moderate to severe withdrawal calls for inpatient care with frequent reassessment. Alcohol and sedative withdrawal in particular can become medically serious.
That depends on the level of care, the assessment outcome and the coverage check, so no honest fixed answer exists. Outpatient scheduling generally moves faster than a residential admission, which requires a bed and often prior approval. Having an insurance card and a current medication list to hand on the first call is the quickest way to a real date.
